From small roots to empowering leader. Learn how what started as one student’s determination to pursue education has grown into FGN’s mission to elevate, educate, and empower future leaders.
Born in Ferriday, Louisiana and raised in Wildsville, Louisiana, Jasmane Myles attended Ferriday High School, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges of under-resourced schools and the limited opportunities available to students like her.
Determined to push beyond barriers, Jasmane, a first-generation college student, graduated from Louisiana State University A&M by actively seeking out opportunities and resources. Her time at LSU deepened her belief that success requires both access and support.
Inspired by her own journey and in honor of Ferriday High School, Jasmane launched the first Legacy Forward Scholarship exclusively for its seniors.
What began as giving back to her roots soon grew into a vision for broader scholarships to provide financial assistance and encouragement for students pursuing higher education.
Jasmane recognized that financial assistance alone wasn’t enough—mentorship and community support were equally vital. This realization transformed her initial scholarship effort into a broader mission to uplift generations of students through multiple forms of support.
On January 14, 2025, Jasmane officially founded First Generation to the Next in Dallas, Texas—symbolically on her birthday, as a celebration of resilience, determination, and a hope for lessening the burdens of others who come after her.
Today, FGN thrives on its three pillars—mentorship, scholarships, and workshops—empowering the next generation to break barriers and achieve their fullest potential.
